Radio Is Now Interactive

Internet RadioInternet Radio is now an interactive medium, engaging millions of consumers online and via mobile devices. EMarketer estimates nearly 80 million U.S. Internet users, or 37.5% of Internet users ages 12 and up, will tune in to Internet radio stations weekly in 2011. This includes online streaming of terrestrial broadcasts and online-only radio stations or podcasts. “For marketers, the rise of Pandora and the expansion of terrestrial audiences into online channels is good news,” said Lisa E. Top Mobile Website Destinations

GoogleThe top mobile website destinations are fairly similar to the leading online destinations, according to a Nielsen survey, with Google Search leading the list. In second place was Facebook, then Gmail, Yahoo! Mail and the Weather Channel. Survey finds young eager to pay by mobile

Younger people are much more enthusiastic about the prospect of being able to make purchases through their mobile devices than are older consumers, according to a MasterCard survey. Nearly two-thirds of those 18 to 34 said they would feel comfortable making such payments, while just over one-third of those over 35 expressed similar acceptance. But 62% of all respondents said they would have to be sure their personal information was safeguarded in such transactions.  (read more)

Apps catch on with “Mobile Moms”

Mothers with smartphones spend more time on mobile surfing than they do PCs, according to a recent report.  These moms also enjoy social networking and using mobile applications on subjects like health, shopping and diet.  Almost half of moms have responded to a mobile ad, the report found. AT&T Looks To E-commerce As Directories Decline

AT&T is hoping new revenue from its debut of its own social-coupon service will help offset continuing declines in yellow-pages ads, which in 2010 fell 16.7%. The telecom giant also has signed HP, JetBlue and other marketers to a new text message-based mobile coupon service in conjunction with Placecast that debuted in March. With 95.5 million wireless subscribers and a $2 billion-plus ad budget, AT&T appears to have the scale to compete with category leaders Groupon and LivingSocial.

Survey Charts Home Use Of Mobile Searches

Mobile searchers are sometimes not so mobile, with 81% of respondents in a survey saying they used their devices for searches in the evening at home. The Performics 2011 Mobile Search Insights Study, polling mobile owners who used their devices at least once a week, also found large majorities saying that mobile searches made their lives easier and that they performed searches more than once a day.
